Stitching Serenity: My Heartfelt Journey with Crochet and Knitting
Recently, my daughter got into crochet, and is proving to be quite good at it. Watching her crochet reminded me of my time with the yarn hobbies. Unfortunately, crocheting never came natural to me. I struggled with it every time. With big needles, little ones, didn’t seem to matter.
Crochet Struggles
I can remember watching my mom crochet dish rags so easily while she watched CSI. It looked fun, so I wanted to learn. Well, me being left handed and her being right it didn’t go well. I got the general idea of it, so I tried telling myself I just needed practice. Well, then I’d get frustrated and need a break, and it was a never ending cycle.
Knitting Sucess
When I was in high school, my best friend taught me how to knit. It came way more natural, and I actually got pretty far into a scarf until the yarn got cut. Over the years I’ve dabbled in knitting, never really making any projects as I was usually having to get the dollar store plastic knitting needles, and to be honest? They suck. They get bent and just…ick. So I finally bought myself a pair of metal Boyle ones, and Its caused me to fall in love with knitting again!
Knitting thankfully comes natural. If I forget something, I look at a quick tutorial on Pinterest and I’m usually able to pick it back up fairly quickly.
So then what am I making?
At first, when I started this knitting project, I really had nothing in mind, it was mostly to compare it to crocheting. But then I noticed how it was just flowing much better than the crochet project. Being that I’m using cotton yarn, my first two ideas are a cute headband, or a dishrag.
Either way, I’m pretty happy with how it is turning out, which is helping me have the drive to keep on going. I’m looking forward to coming back with the results!
Which do you find easier? Knitting? Or Crocheting?
