Family Feast for Under $10: Budget-Friendly Meals Everyone Will Love
So, a few months back I wrote a post, about trying to fit your food budget within $185 because that’s what I was receiving with food stamps at the time. Since that time, they’ve reduced me even more, with my budget being $133 now. Thankfully, were able to hit food banks, or purchase food if things get to rough.
As crazy as it sounds, I don’t mind it too much. I really did at first, and it really stressed me out. But now, I look at it as a game. Which, watching my mother in law in the kitchen has really helped with that reframing on my end. And so has pinterest, and some of the other TickTock wives and moms who are in a similar position, and watching what they do. Its inspired me and now, I find myself being more creative in the kitchen, which are making for much better and sometimes healthier meals.
A Family Classic
This was a favorite dinner of mine growing up as a kid, and its always one I have in the back of my mind when I just want to throw something together without thinking about it. And thankfully usually the ingredients have always been reasonably priced. You have the cocktail weenies, which are usually only a few bucks, and if you shop at a place like Grocery Outlet, you can get a box of macaroni and cheese for 59 cents!
If you haven’t pieced it together yet, were talking about cocktail weenies and mac and cheese. For me, this meal cost me $9.16 cents, because I already had the BBQ sauce, given to me. The situation might be different for you, and the prices may be different for you as well.
Ingredients:
2 Packages of Lil Smokies
2 Boxes of Macaroni and Cheese
BBQ sauce of choice
Directions
I personally like making this meal in the slow cooker, cause I can set it and let it go. You can also do this on the stovetop as well if your short on time. You really just need to heat up the hotdogs. Once they are warm enough for you, they are ready to eat. Then you just make the macaroni and cheese based on the box instructions and you got an easy meal that your kids probably wont complain about!
This recipe looks delicious. I will try it out this evening for dinner.
Its the best of both worlds, delicious AND kid friendly!
I am not sure if I would call this a feast, but I would definitely call it Tuesday’s Dinner 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
