I Tried the Viral Onion Boil Recipe: Here’s What Happened
When I was doom scrolling the other day, something caught my attention. There were people eating a whole onion. and enjoying it. What? I had to know more. So, I did some digging. and more watching.
I don’t hate onions like I used to…And it really intrigued me, so I thought; while were at my moms house I’ll make it since the ovens going to be on for making the Manicotti anyways. I’ll just pop it in as well, that way everyone can try this recipe, and I can get everyone’s input on it.
I noticed that everyone used different seasonings. They changed it based on what flavors they like. So, when I made mine, I made it to go with my seasonings I already have.
Ingredients:
- 1 yellow onion
- 1 stick Butter
- Garlic Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Minced Garlic
- Cajun Seasoning
- Paprika
directions:
Core the center of the onion. You really just want enough to shove in some butter.
Cut 1 tbsp from the stick of butter and Melt the rest. gather seasonings. I didn’t measure anything. I just put in the amount that felt right. Add your seasonings to the melted butter and stir. Add your garlic to the mettled butter too.
Gather a baking dish and some aluminum foil. Your gonna want to make a bowl out of your aluminum foil to catch all the melted butter you pour over the onion. Then, your going to enclose it all and use the baking tray just to catch any butter that might leak out. so its going to be cooking, in that butter, wrapped in aluminum. Again, the baking dish is a preventative measure.
Bake for 350 for about an hour. And remember, when you take it out its going to be very hot! I like to save the butter to dip the onion in.
Opinions:
Daniel says it wasn’t bad, and he wouldn’t mind trying one made with different seasonings, maybe one not so garlic heavy. And he’s not sure he’d want to eat one by himself, but as a side dish he says its got potential.
Vito and Elizabeth refused to even try it.
I personally agree with Daniel. I tried it with some rice the next day, and it paired very well together.
Would you try an Onion Boil? What seasonings would you use in it?
