The GOOD coleslaw
I am very particular when it comes to coleslaw. I think that 90% of the ones I’ve had put far too much sugar in it, or worse. They use that absolutely horrid ingredient……miracle whip. But one time I made shrimp tacos, and something felt wrong about topping it with the traditional taco toppings. So, I decided to make a coleslaw that I could eat.
I started out by shredding carrots and cabbage. Sometimes I’ll mix it up by dicing up a green onion and adding it, but most of the time, its just a basic cabbage and carrot coleslaw.
Ingredients:
- Shredded Cabbage
- Shredded Carrots
- Green Onion, Diced (optional)
- Mayonnaise
- Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder
- Sugar
Directions:
Start by adding your cabbage and carrots into a bowl. Now let me preface this by saying I used no measurements with this. I added some mayonnaise until it felt right, mixed together until it had what looked like a decent amount of dressing.
Once the cabbage and carrot mixture was dressed with mayo, now is the time to add your seasonings and sugar. Now, I don’t use anymore than a tablespoon of sugar. but honestly, I probably use close to 1 tsp of sugar. I don’t like my coleslaw sweet; at all, so I hardly put any sugar in it.
This coleslaw is my preferred way to have it. Weather its by itself or as a topping. This is the slaw I make to top my shrimp tacos, or BBQ pork sandwiches. I’d love to hear your thoughts on coleslaw. Do you like yours sweet? Or Savory?
