Chocolate Cake from Scratch

Remember a few posts ago when I made my very own cake mix? Well its time to give it a try! I was excited to make my first cake completely from scratch, and got started right away.

The first thing I noticed was how dense it was. The batter was extremely thick, much, much thicker than a boxed cake mix would be. I almost worried it was TOO thick. But I decided to try it how the instructions said, and then make adjustments later, if needed.

The cake baked for approximately 25-28 minutes, at 350 degrees. Once it cooled down, I decided to whip up a quick chocolate frosting.

Ingredients:

  • 2tbsp Butter, room temp
  • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2TBSP Cocca Powder
  • 2TBSP Hot water

The frosting is super simple, literally mix everything together, putting the water in last to help the butter melt. Next time I make this frosting I’ll be doubling the recipe, as I just barley had enough frosting to frost a 13×9 cake.

Now was the time to cut and serve the cake! The first thing I noticed after tasting it, was the cake, even with the weird batter, was delicious, and still cake like, still moist! I have a feeling this would be even better with a Peanut Butter frosting, but Alas, I didn’t have enough peanut butter.

I urge you, even if its the only time you do so, give this cake mix (and cake) a try, and comment below how your version turned out. What kind of Frosting did you put on it? Or did you opt for a sprinkling of powdered sugar instead? I’d love to hear from you!
