A Drop of Bliss: Discovering the Beauty of Rosewater

This spring, I have been determined to take what I want of my plants such as my roses and Lavender, while they are producing a great deal (before the gross heat of summer starts).

With lavender, it takes me a bit longer to accumulate enough, because I don’t take very much at a time. However, the roses are a different story. I’ll leave the small ones, that are still growing, however the ones that have fully bloomed, I’ll nip off. My son will sometimes help me pull the pedals off and then we dry them, that way we can make rosewater, or really anything all year round.

What is Rosewater?

Rose water is exactly what it sounds like. Water, infused with Roses. It can be made using fresh or dried roses, as well as distilled water. It can be used on your skin, and in fact is GREAT for your skin, but it can also be used in cooking as well.

Rosewater is one of those things that have been around for YEARS. But with the modern beauty regimens, has a tendency to be forgotten about. Cleopatra was even rumored to use Rosewater!

For your Skin

Rosewater has many benefits for your skin, in varying ways.

  • Rosewater has Anti-aging properties
  • It helps maintain your skins PH balance
  • Helps heal wounds and scars, while reducing redness
  • Hydrates and Moisturizes your skin
  • The smell can lift your mood

Rosewater is an anti-inflammatory, and an Anti-bacterial. If your able to add rosewater to your skin regimen, I have no doubt that you will start to notice a change!

Recipe:

Rosewater is so easy to make, it seems silly to go get it from the store.

  • 2 Cups dried rose petals OR 1 cup fresh
  • 2 Cups Distilled water

Equipment:

  • Pot with a lid
  • Air tight jar
  • Sieve

Directions:

Add the Rose petals and water. The petals will likely float to the top. Give a stir to ensure all the petals are soaked.

Put on the stove on a low heat. Continue to mix to ensure all the petals are coated in water.

Once the water creates steam, put on the lid to ensure the oils do not escape.

After 20 minutes, run the mixture through a sieve and put the water in the airtight jar and let come to room temperature.

Store in refrigerator and use within 7 days.
