Years ago, when my husband and I got married, we went to breakfast afterward with family at a restaurant called Lumberjacks. While we talked with family we would occasionally glance over at the TV they had on the wall and there were logging sports going on. Log throwing, axe throwing, ect. We’d go to this restaurant occasionally throughout the years, still do sometimes, and the logging sports is always something we are hoping is on.

Well, fast-forward about 15 years and Daniel is driving to work one day and calls me, asking me to google something to find out more. Well, I did and he was talking about the Logging conference we have every year in Shasta County. Daniel wanted to go! And being that many people on both my mother and fathers side comes from the logging industry, I was all for it!

There wasn’t a lot of information online about what all else would be there, so we went and nabbed some pizza before we went, just to be on the safe side. Parking and entry was free, and it wasn’t a hassle finding a place to park either.
The entire fairgrounds was filled with heavy machinery that they allowed the kids to climb on. This ranged from equipment that you’d see on large job sites, to machines you might use if you have a decent amount of property. I looked more at the smaller machines, the machines I could see being useful whenever Daniel and I get land.

They also had Chainsaw carving, and races. Which, was interesting to watch people create things such as chairs or sculptures with a simple log of wood and a chainsaw. After that was the axe throwing, something Daniel and Vito were both eager to see.
All in all, while there wasn’t much to learn about homesteading itself at the conference. However, it did remind me about what else you need when you homestead on a lot of land. There were definitely things there that would make homesteading easier, when it comes to the yard care stuff. Tractor to help me with a bigger garden, ect.
My family and I really enjoyed the conference, and plan on going next year, and if all goes the way we want it, next year we will be going as new homeowners looking for equipment for our new property.
