Bad Luck and Broken Bones: Our Friday the 13th Fiasco

When your a teacher, you always dread Friday the 13th, mostly because it can go two very different ways. Very good- or very bad. In my instance, my day actually started pretty well, kids were behaving and it was overall a good day.

Until about 12:30. Up until this point, Daniel and I were discussing what to do for our date night. Daniel called me about this time, in pain. He had just fallen out of a tree, and at the time thought he simply dislocated his shoulder and just needed to ice it and rest.

He called about 10 minutes later, requesting I leave and take him to the hospital. “Something Aint Right” He just repeated. I had to have driven about 90MPH home that day, as I had never heard him in such pain before. In the almost 15 years we’ve been together.

Not his Xray, but an Example of a Humeral Shaft Fracture

After literal hours at the ER we discover that his arm, is broken. A mid Humeral Fracture and he’s gonna need to be in a cast for a good few weeks. It wasn’t how we wanted to start our date night, but thanks to the wonderful Pain meds they gave Daniel, he was at least still open to dinner at a Chinese buffet, epically since the man hadn’t eaten all day.

So that’s where we are now. On Tuesday, he will go in for another Xray and a permanent cast. Hopefully that’s where we will also find out if he will need another surgery or not. Everyone is thinking positively and hoping that he will just need a cast for a few weeks.
