When it comes to clutter, my husband and I are very talented with accumulating it, It doesn’t help that were both creative people and want to get the most of something before we have to throw it away. So those jeans that are all ripped up? Lets use the material to patch up another pair of jeans, or make it into an apron. Or maybe my husband gets a great deal on this switch or router that he later doesn’t need. Needless to say, we have a tenancy to accumulate stuff we later wind up not needing.

And of course there’s still the crafter in me who sometimes gets the urge to create for other people. So Mercari I chose because I’ve sold on this platform before, and it has been great. Easy to use, and you can find just about anything on it. As a seller I also love that they a way to do ‘bundle deals’. and you can send offers to anyone who have liked anything you’ve listed for sale, and if something doesn’t sell? Mercari doesn’t charge you the fee! So maybe those old jeans didn’t sell on them and you decide to just yard sale or donate them. Just delete the listing and you don’t have to worry about being charged.

How is it a ‘Side Hustle’?

Basically because its not the main source of homesteading income. Right now the main homesteading income is whatever Daniel does for work. Whatever is made from the mercari store, is extra money to use for other things we need/want. Mercari is just one of many side hustles I plan on implementing on the homestead. With Daniel working hard ensuring all our bills are paid, anything I make with the homestead goes twords our savings, or any fun memory making activities to do as a family or with the kids. I kind of treat it like a consistent online yard-sale.

What to sell?

I honestly have a variety of things on my Mercari store. Things ranging from some of my crafts, to the old internet equipment Daniel was keeping for a while and wound up not needing, to stuff I’m just getting rid of that I could see someone else getting good use out of. Sometimes I’ll also cross post it on Mercari and Facebook. The important thing here is to remember to delete it from both places whenever it sells.

What to Buy?

I use Mercari kind of like an online thrift store. Things I probably wont find easily or exactly what I want in the thrift stores here, I’ll take a look and see what mercari has. For example, the other day I was thinking about getting another loaf pan. The great part about it is that if you sell something, and you want to turn around and just get something, you can use the money that’s loaded on your account once you sell something.

How to find my Mercari Store

Search Lemkehomestead on Mercari, and my seller profile should pop up.
