A Dash of Heat: My Official Review of Our Homemade Jalapeño Salt

Recently I finally got my hands on my first food dehydrator, and I have not been able to stop making homemade seasonings. So much so that I’m working through the process of selling them! Right now I have Onion Powder and Garlic Powder. When I first thought about even trying Jalapeno salt, I was noticing my husband was in the mood for spicy, more so than usual, and I only had so much hot sauce and lets face it, hot sauce should not go on everything.

I was still working on perfecting my technique with my onion powder, so one of the times I had the dehydrator going, I decided I’d throw in the rest of my peppers that were needing to be used up anyway, and just make 1 small batch. My husband is typically pretty good about being honest about my experiments, even if the truth hurts sometimes. I used the same technique that I did with my garlic and onion powders and to my surprise, it turned out delicious!

What does it go Best onTortilla Chips

Chips were the first thing we made to test out the seasoning. I cut up corn tortilla shells into chip shaped pieces and fried them, salting them when they were still warm. I seasoned them with about the same amount of seasoning I’d have used if I would have used regular or garlic salt. Daniel said that if he were having tortilla chips with no dip, he’d want the Jalapeno salt on them.

Scrambled Eggs

We had breakfast for dinner one night, and I was a few eggs short, so after I whipped up my kids scrambled eggs I had to scramble more. So I used the jalapeno salt and they were delicious! I’ve also made a breakfast burrito with the eggs seasoned with the salt and it was delicious. Daniel still requests it when he is home and has time for a homemade breakfast.

Potato Chips

I expected this one, it only made sense considering how well the tortilla chips turned out. I sliced up potatoes thinly with my mandolin, soaking them for a couple hours before frying them. I seasoned them right after it came out of the fryer, which helps the seasoning stick on.

And more ?

There’s so much more left for me to try this seasoning on, meat, seafood, pasta, bread, ect. I have a feeling that anything that would be good with a ‘jalapeño’ element is going to be pretty tasty with this seasoning. I am looking forward to providing it for everyone to try, because I am going to love to hear what you put it on!
